Quality control and inspection of fresh produce

Our quality commitment

Quality at Every Step of the Chain

From field selection to port loading, every ValleyPick shipment is governed by documented standards, independent inspection, and cold chain discipline — so buyers receive exactly what was agreed.

Farm-to-Port Traceability

Every consignment is traceable to its source farm, harvest date, and packing run. We maintain full documentation from field records through packing facility logs to the final bill of lading — giving buyers and their auditors a clear, unbroken chain of custody.

Lot codes are applied at packing and carried through to outer carton labels, enabling rapid trace-back in the unlikely event of a quality query.

Grading & Sorting Standards

Produce is graded against EU Class I and Class II specifications as a baseline, with buyer-specific tolerances applied on request. Sorting lines use calibrated sizing equipment to ensure consistent pack weights and presentation.

Size calibration

Mechanical calibration to buyer-specified diameter or weight bands.

Colour & maturity

Visual grading by trained sorters against approved reference samples.

Defect tolerance

Zero tolerance for decay; EU Class I defect limits applied as standard.

Foreign material

Metal detection and visual inspection at packing line exit.

Net weight verification

Checkweigher on every packing line; short-weight cartons rejected.

Buyer-specific specs

Custom grading protocols available for retail-programme suppliers.

Cold Chain & Temperature Control

Maintaining the cold chain from harvest to destination port is non-negotiable. ValleyPick works exclusively with pre-cooled packing facilities and temperature-controlled reefer containers.

Pre-cooling

Produce enters the packing facility at field temperature and is pre-cooled to target storage temperature before packing.

Controlled packing environment

Packing halls maintained at 4–8 °C for fresh produce; blast-freeze tunnels for IQF lines.

Reefer container loading

Containers pre-cooled to set-point before loading. Temperature data loggers placed inside every container.

Transit monitoring

Data logger download available on arrival, providing a full temperature record for the voyage.

IQF frozen storage

Frozen product held at −18 °C or below from blast-freeze through to container loading.

Lab Testing & Residue Checks

Pesticide residue testing is carried out by accredited third-party laboratories prior to shipment. Results are shared with buyers on request.

MRL compliance

Residue levels tested against EU Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) as standard; UK and GCC MRLs available on request.

Microbiological testing

Microbiological analysis available for buyers requiring food safety data, including E. coli, Salmonella, and Listeria.

Heavy metals

Heavy metal screening available on request for buyers with specific import requirements.

Third-party accreditation

All laboratory testing conducted by ISO 17025-accredited laboratories.

Test reports

Full test reports provided to buyers prior to or alongside shipment documentation.
